The Death of a Sun

For those of you who are interested in the fate of our Sun here’s a chance to look into the future. Well, sort of.

Hubble has “snapped” a pic of the death throes of a roughly solar mass star that has just become a white dwarf after shedding it’s outer layers, i.e. creating a fantastic planetary nebula (see attached pic).

Still a few billion years until this happens though. Mind you Earth will be long gone at that stage after being swallowed up by the Sun’s expanding red giant stage anyway
